Planning For Business Success in 2010
Hello and Happy New Year to you all! I hope you have enjoyed the Christmas holiday break and are back feeling refreshed. At Contact First Business Solutions we have had a busy start to the year. Rod and myself have been doing lots of
Business planning and goal setting.
We truly enjoy this time of year. The process of planning and goal setting is a fundamental function for us, because it not only helps us to time manage ourselves effectively , it assists us to be in control of the direction we want the business to go in. It provides us with a clear direction on what goals we want to achieve and how we can do it.
By formalising this information into a simple Action Plan, and updating the information as we make progress with our goals it gives us a strong focus on what we need to do next. More importantly, it keeps us motivated and enthused during the process.
I always start the planning process by reviewing what was done last year and what things I feel need to be introduced or improved upon. For us as Business Consultants a big part our process encompasses what our customer’s feedback over the last 12 months has been and what services and/or products we feel need to be introduced or improved upon.
We live in a fast changing environment and in order to keep pace with the many changes that affect us in our businesses the first thing we must recognise is to be flexible in our approach with our planning and goal setting. Having a plan B is always good for those projects which have ‘outside’ influences.
In order for us to achieve our desired results we need to be SMART;
Specific in goal setting,
Measure our results – break down the goal into short term or small measurements
Attainable – Identifying goals that are important and within our reach of accomplishing
Realistic – Our goals must be “do-able”, and we must have the skills and/or available resources to achieve them.
Timely – Make sure you set a timeframe for the goal. Putting an end point on your goal gives you a clear target to work towards.
